Week of June 22 – June 28

Posted: 06/29/2009

The garage footings and ICF’s were put in place early in the week on Tuesday the 23rd. There was a some confusion with the garage that all got worked out with an end result of us losing 3 inches of width off the garage, at one point it was going to be 8 inches so 3 is better.

Framing for the first floor started on Thursday June 25th on the same day concrete for the ICF’s was poured and dirt was being filled back in over the footings on the garage. Seeing the framing started for the first floor made us realize our house is going to be tall. Saturday the concrete slab for the garage was poured and on Sunday they came and cut it. All the pictures are up in the see our passive house section.

Images First Glance

I hope to be posting more about the individual images in the see our passive house section. But for now here is what you are looking at.

The first section ‘remodel design’ are the design from Mr. Brach when we were thinking that we could just remodel the home instead of having to tear it down. The main idea was to extend the tall part of the house back a little more, and raise the ceiling level of the main floor. However, it turns out that doing this extensive of a remodel was pretty close to starting over and doing a new house. Also we had to place the garage in the back yard something we weren’t very excited about.

The second section ‘Design’ includes snapshots of the current building plans. These are all renderings taken from Sketchup, from the model that Mr. Brach has been putting together for us. You can see how similar the design of tear down and rebuild is to the remodel images. The 6th picture (the one with no texture) is the image that started us in the ‘breezeway direction’.

The third section is the ‘Pre Demolition’ section. These include pictures of the home before the destruction. These were taken largely to show that none of the homes on our street had a sidewalk. So we shouldn’t have to place a sidewalk as well. You can also see images of pillars that don’t reach the floor and of interior flooring that desperately needed to be replaced… with a new home!

The demolition pictures are just that. The 3 days that it took to tear down the home.

The building pictures include everything from the old home being removed and the new hole for the new home added. More to come on the building process.
